Colorado Springs Getting Its Own ‘Red Rocks?’
There's good news and bad news. The good news is, Colorado Springs is getting its own Red Rocks-type amphitheater. The bad news is, there aren't actual red rocks involved. Still though.
Out There Colorado reports that a $40 million, 8,000-seat outdoor amphitheater is currently being planned for Colorado Springs' north side, on the Polaris Pointe development.
The stage would host "top-name music and entertainment acts," similar to Red Rocks and Denver's Fiddler Green amphitheater.
According to OTC, "The Sunset, as it would be called, would help lift Colorado Springs out of an 'entertainment desert' while it attracts thousands of people to nearby restaurants and stores, said Springs businessman and entrepreneur J.W. Roth, whose Notes Live entertainment company plans to develop the venue."
It would be built on 6.5 acres and face west toward a picturesque mountain backdrop.
Roth told OTC that they call it The Sunset "because the headliner show every night during concert season will begin when the sun sets behind Pikes Peak."
Roth said he's hoping to begin site prep work shortly, and aims to have the venue completed by summer 2023, with shows beginning by the end of the year.
"I love live music, I love our city, I love Colorado Springs," Roth told Out There Colorado. "It is my home, it's been my home for 60 years. I want to see the culture and the arts culture in Colorado Springs flourish. And I've just had great success with Boot Barn Hall. The community has just embraced it."
Boot Barn Hall is a 1,000-seat indoor venue that hosts music, meetings, banquets, and trade shows. It also occupies Polaris Pointe and sits next two restaurants that he has built. A 2nd Boot Barn Hall is currently under construction in Atlanta, so the guy knows what he's doing.
Roth said he's not trying to compete with Red Rocks or Fiddler's Green; he's trying to compliment them.
"There's a lot of artists and there are a lot of tours," he said, "and I don't think that the venues all need to get up in the morning and decide they're going to compete with each other in the sense of trying to land or book certain artists. I just don't feel that."
