Blood Red Moon Looms Over Casper [PHOTO GALLERY]
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 16th, a blood red moon hung over Casper before fading into the horizon. Hardy Wolfe was there with his camera to witness and capture the occurrence.
Around 4:20 AM Tuesday morning, Hardy Wolfe captured photos of this eerie looking moon on Cole Creek Rd. about one mile north of the North Platte River.
The orange/red color of the moon is caused by the Earth's atmosphere. When the moon moves near the horizon, the light passes through much more atmosphere than it does when overhead. The recent wildfires in and around Wyoming have put a lot of smoke in the air and atmosphere, therefore intensifying the color.
Always a cool sight to see!
