Everyone is Irish on Saint Patrick's Day! And to be honest, yes, I am Irish and my birthday is on St. Patty's Day. So I thought I would share with you some of my birthday/St. Patrick's Day traditions. Yes, most of which include beer.

    Drink Like You're Irish!

    Irish Coffee!

Luckily, this Saint Patrick's Day is on a Saturday. So most of you can start your morning off like my grandfather did with some warm Irish Coffee. It's really easy to make and here's my go-to recipe from All Recipes:

    Ingredients:

    • 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger Irish cream liqueur
    • 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger Irish whiskey
    • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
    • 1 tablespoon whipped cream
    • 1 dash ground nutmeg

Directions: In a coffee mug, combine Irish cream and Irish whiskey. Fill mug with coffee. Top with a dab of whipped cream and a dash of nutmeg.

A few cups of this will lay the foundation for the rest of you're eating and drinking today.

    Irish Car Bomb

The name is so wrong, but the drink is so right!

When I hear Irish Car Bomb, I know this is an American creation ripped from the IRA and I kinda feel wrong...however, if you're going to be Irish-American, you should try one. Here's a great recipe from DrinksMixer.com:

    3/4 pint Guinness® stout

    1/2 shot Bailey's® Irish cream

    1/2 shot Jameson® Irish whiskey

Add the Bailey's and Jameson to a shot glass, layering the Bailey's on the bottom. Pour the Guinness into a pint glass or beer mug 3/4 of the way full and let settle. Drop the shot glass into the Guinness and chug. If you don't drink it fast enough it will curdle and increasingly taste worse.

TIP: Drink it fast! To be honest with you, this drink is disgusting to me...I hate Guinness. I know, I was born on this day, but I still hate it. However, this next recipe I do love and yes, it's got Guinness!

It's Time To Drink Your Lunch

Live It Up - You're Irish Today!

Like most things you will be eating and drinking today, they all have deeper meanings. For example, The Black And Tan Drink. First off, here's a delicious recipe from DrinksMixer.com...this one's my favorite:

    • 1 part Bass® pale ale
    • 1 part Guinness® stout

Fill stien half full with Bass. Next pour Guiness over a spoon slowly until glass is full. If done correctly the Guiness will stay on top and the Bass on bottom hence the name Black & Tan.

    Corned Beef & Cabbage Time!

    Finally It's Time To Eat!

After all the drinking you've done today, now it's time to eat. Here's what you do:

    1. Invite everyone you like drinking and eating with.
    2. Cook up a big pot of Corned Beef & Cabbage.
    3. EAT!

Click the link for the exact recipe I'll be cooking at our home on St. Patty's Day from AllRecipes. Corned Beef & Cabbage is my birthday dinner, every year. I love it, I can eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And the best part, is sharing it with good people.
