We learned earlier this year that Tool were possibly working on their first new album in nine years; the follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days, due out later (hopefully) late 2015 according to guitarist Adam Jones. Now, in a cryptic Instagram clip, Jones unveiled a strange new riff developed during what could be the band's current studio sessions. You can check out the clip, which reads, “~Playing strange strings at Joe B.’s #EvilJoe #CaptainMidnight,” below.

This is not the guitarist's first tease; the first one came courtesy of another Instagram post showing producer Joe Barresi sitting behind a recording console with the caption, “A little taste ~ Mixing a would be jam.~ #Tool.” You can check that out below as well.

According to Ultimate-Guitar, the band's most recent newsletter confirms that the rockers are indeed in the studio with Barresi, who helped produce -- as well as engineer and mix -- the widely-praised 10,000 Days.
