We are moving closer  to that magical period of the year that we affectionately call "Summer". Which means for some it's time to start planning on acquiring that coveted "Summer Job". But as any one who's held down a summer job will tell you, it's a delicate  process.

Why?

Because you have to find just the right balance when deciding on that summer job. There are a couple key points that must be taken into consideration when deciding what position you will take for the summer.

Money

This is contingent on each individual's goals. You need to seriously consider just how much money you are looking to earn this summer. Because most of the time it's going to be inversely proportional to how much free time you will have to enjoy your summer*.

*Of course this can be supplemented if you take all that money you earned and take a super awesome vacation.

But you're going to need at least some income to fund all your super awesome summer adventures. If you're really looking to maximize your weekly income while minimizing the actual number hours of worked; I would recommend pursuing a job that involves tips.

Required # of Hours on the Job / Weekly Schedule

Yeah the idea of not having to wake up until 2:00pm to get to work at 3:00pm sounds like a pretty sweet gig. But it will quickly turn into a nightmare if you're spending your entire summer ignoring all your friend's texts / calls wondering why you're missing out and yet another awesome camping trip up on the mountain.

I would advise you to find a job that will have you working during the typical 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Plan to be working at least a few weekends though, in this line of temp summer work you're very likely going to be stuck working a few. But take comfort, a couple of Saturday shifts is far superior then watching your friend's "Best Summer Ever" unfold before you on your Facebook Timeline.

With these rules being kept in mind, here are The Intern's suggestions for the Best Summer / Student Jobs in Casper, Wyoming.

# 4 Office Temp / Clerical  / Etc.

This is a broad category. I put it here because I had quite a few friends growing up who had parents that we're lawyers and/or accountants. Leading to a lot of them having "office" jobs. Based on the amount of time I would see them out on their own "adventures" it would appear to fit my requirements.

Pros: Typical M-F 8:00am - 5:00pm with weekends off. Average pay. Potential for sweet work environment. Can usually expect an hour long lunch.

Cons: Dress Code, Early Mornings, tedious and repetitive responsibilities.

#3 Life Guard

When you land your first Life Guard job, you will fall to your knees and thank your parents for forcing you to go through with all those early morning swimming lessons when you were younger. Trust me.

Pros: Outdoors ALL DAY. Short work days on bad weather days. The visual stimulation awarded by sitting five feet about everyone else while wearing sunglasses. Female coworkers.

Cons: EARLY mornings. Weekend work. People's lives are entrusted to you. Vitamin D overdoses.

#2 Delivery Driver (Pizza typically)

I'm a proud 4 year veteran of the high flying, whirlwind adventure that is pizza delivery. Ok, I might have over sold that just a little bit. But let's review the facts, okay?

Delivery Driver Facts:

1) You're paid to drive around town, and listen to music.

2) It's a tip based job, so you leave every shift with CASH IN HAND!

3) Of all of the tip based service industry positions, it has one of the highest hourly wages among food service positions that rely on tips.

4) It can provide an excellent work schedule. You've got two options typically when working in the Delivery Pizza arena. You can take on the day part, you don't have to go in that early, and you still make decent tips since you're typically one of two or the only driver on shift. Or you can take a night shift, which is very suitable for the 18+ crowd. Why? Simple. You're working right up until about the time that any "adventures" that might be going on, are just getting into full swing. You are leaving work with cold hard cash in hand, and don't have to be back to work until 3:00pm the next day. Do you see where I am going with this?

Pros: See Delivery Driver Facts.

Cons: Can be a losing situation if you're ride isn't very gas conservative. Requires a fair amount of discipline when it comes to money management. Family might grow suspicious of your behavior and question whether or not you actually have a job.

#1 Landscaping and Irrigation

WOW! It wasn't until I was in college that I discovered just how unbelievably awesome this kind of work is for a summer job. That's not to say it's with out its own drawbacks, but the benefits far out weight them.

Probably the hardest thing to get over, especially for college people (NO CLASS BEFORE 11AM!) is the early start. The company I worked for wanted us on the road with our trailers no later than 7am. Which usually meant about a 5:-15am-5:30am wake up call, but this is a non-issue when examined next to what you receive in return.

FOUR DAY WORK WEEKS!!!!!!!

Yes, 3 day weekends, every single week. Have to work Friday to get a job finished? That's okay, because then you get OVER TIME! I can't stress enough how much fun I had doing this work. I worked with a great group of people, and we enjoyed our summer to the fullest. We went out on "adventures" almost every single night, and still had money left in our pockets for some really great weekend adventure trips. I can't stress enough to all of you high school  / college aged kids out there, this is the ultimate summer job.

Pros: Four words. Four day work week.

Cons: Early mornings, manual labor intensive.
