The City of Casper received a $1.5 million grant to complete the reconstruction of a three-block area of Midwest Avenue between Elm and Walnut streets in the Old Yellowstone District, according to a news release from the Wyoming Business Council.

The city had requested $1,520,693 from the Business Council, which approved it last month and forwarded the request to the State Loan and Investment Board, which is composed of the five statewide elected officials.

The SLIB -- the governor, secretary of state, treasurer, auditor and superintendent of public instruction -- granted the full request at its meeting in Cheyenne on Thursday

The city will use the money to replace water and sanitary sewer main pipes, enlarging storm sewer mains, and reconstruction of the street, sidewalks, curbs and gutters. The project also includes bike lanes, lighting, fiber cable and underground electrical infrastructure, according to the news release.

The SLIB also approved grants for Sublette and Sweetwater counties:

Sublette County received $1,032,500 to buy the building and 2.15 acres belonging to Enviremedial Services, Inc. ESI leases the building as a manufacturing facility, but needs to expand to fulfill recent government contracts. The county will own the building and ESI will pay on the lease for 20 years. ESI will pay for the building's 2,400-square-foot expansion.

Sweetwater County received $50,000 to conduct a study for the Industrial Development Project, the region's largest locally driven venture to generate new conditions for economic development. This will consist of developing a site of up to 15,000 acres in the area of the Southwest Regional Airport.
