Smashing Pumpkins Readying Deluxe Reissues of First Two Albums
The Smashing Pumpkins‘ legacy will be honored later this year when their first two albums — 1991′s ‘Gish’ and 1993′s ‘Siamese Dream’ — will be reissued in a variety of formats, including CD, deluxe two-CD/DVD, vinyl LP and digital configurations.
“Both albums, each with bonus content and special features that were curated from the band’s archives by founding member Billy Corgan, have been painstakingly remastered for the first time from the original master tapes by Bob Ludwig,” reads a press release.
Due Nov. 29, the ‘Gish’ reissue will be available as a stand-alone single remastered CD, a two-CD/DVD set featuring the remastered CD plus a second CD of ‘Gish’-era of live takes, demo versions, remixes and other rarities, plus a 10-track DVD of a concert recorded on Aug. 25, 1990, at the Metro in the band’s hometown of Chicago. The vinyl release will remastered specifically for listening in that format.
Also due Nov. 29 are the ‘Siamese Dream’ reissues, coming out as a single remastered CD version of the album, and a two-CD/DVD collection featuring its own second CD of ‘Dream’ outtakes, demos, alternative takes and other rarities. The DVD here is a 17-song concert also recorded at the Metro; this one was recorded on Aug. 14, 1993. The ‘Siamese Dream’ vinyl reissue will feature the entire album, also remastered for playback on a turntable.
Both Deluxe Edition sets will be packaged in a special lift-top box, with liner notes, track-by-track commentary from Billy Corgan, previously unseen collages and photos, postcards and other goodies. For the liner notes, Corgan was interviewed by journalist/author David Wild and Corgan uses the opportunity to reflect on the band’s evolution and talk extensively about the origins of each song.
