Myles Kennedy on Slash Reuniting With Guns N’ Roses: ‘I Don’t See It Slowing Down Anytime Soon’
One of the biggest stories of the year has been the return of Slash and Duff McKagan to the Guns N' Roses lineup, but as expected, the reunion has led to Slash's solo band with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators to go on a bit of a break. During a recent chat with Team Rock (that will air on an upcoming episode of One on One With Mitch Lafon), Kennedy discussed Slash's return to the Guns N' Roses lineup and revealed that he doesn't see that coming to an end anytime soon.
"There was always a feeling inside that it was eventually gonna happen," says Kennedy. "It's such an incredible band and it was inevitable. When [Slash] told me, the first thing I said was, 'You guys are gonna make a lot of people extremely happy, myself included.'"
The vocalist says he caught the band's performance in Las Vegas this spring and was thrilled to see his longtime musical partner rejoining Guns N' Roses. "It was just so great to see those guys together on stage again. As a rock fan, it's good for rock. It's a well-needed shot in the arm for rock 'n' roll. It's going so well, so I don't see it slowing down anytime soon."
But just because Slash is back with Guns N' Roses doesn't mean that Kennedy is hurting for something to do. His band Alter Bridge is readying their fifth studio album, The Last Hero, for an October release. Plus, he's been working on a solo album for a few years, but was waiting for a spot in his schedule to issue it.
"I do have a solo record being mixed as we speak that is more acoustic based, more singer-songwriter based," says Kennedy. "It has blues elements, ethereal elements. It's something creatively and artistically I just needed to do and get off my chest. As far as the goal to release it, I'm gonna wait and see how long this Alter Bridge tour runs and see what happens with The Conspirators and Slash. I don't just wanna drop it and throw it out there because the goal making the record was always to go out there and just play with a guitar, just an acoustic guitar -- me against the world."
At present, Alter Bridge has moved to the forefront of Kennedy's schedule, with tour dates booked through the fall and an appearance at ShipRocked already confirmed for 2017. Hear a portion of the interview with Myles Kennedy below.
