The recent heavy, wet snow in Casper took a toll on a lot of the City's trees, still full of fall foliage. City officials say the Sanitation Department will help out by relaxing extra collection rules for the month of October and collecting branches.

Starting Thursday, October 12th, residents can place branches for collection on their October extra collection days. The branches don't have to be bundled and there's no limit to the number, but they do have to be four inches or less in diameter and must be cut to lengths of 6 feet or less. Branches should be placed either curbside or in the alley, depending on where your trash is collected.

Casper residents with trash collection get two extra collections per month, either on the 1st and 3rd, or the 2nd and 4th trash day of the month. You can find your extra collection days on the City of Casper website.

Branches collected during October will be mixed with waste and taken to the landfill as extra trash will still be collected in October. “Many people are used to their second extra collection being for trash, so we are mixing the waste and not interrupting that service,” says Solid Waste Manager Cynthia Langston. Langston say that the change will only be in effect for October.  “November will remain leaf collection only, and we are happy we can provide some help in October,” she says.

Branches that are too large for the extra trash collection will need to be hauled to the compost yard at the Casper Solid Waste Facility, and there's no fee for those branches.
