Casper’s Frontier Middle School State Finalist in Samsung Contest

When it comes to math and science, its power comes from applying that knowledge. You can memorize the Pythagorean Theorem, but until you know how to apply that to a real life situation, it is just numbers and letters on a piece of paper. Once you start to apply that idea, it becomes a valuable tool.

Samsung nationwide contest “Solve for Tomorrow” was designed to inspire and encourage students to use science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to improve the community. It is also a great way to bridge that gap between the abstract concepts of math and science into the real world. The contest focuses on working as a team using STEM.

Casper’s own Frontier Middle School is a state finalist in the running. Frontier middle idea is to have a community refrigerator to help reduce waste and feed the needy. So far they have won two Samsung Galaxy® Tabs and are eligible for more prizes. Lizzy Hede’s class enters the next round in the contest which starts in December. They are one of five schools selected from Wyoming. If they win, the grand prize is $2 Million. The next step for Mrs. Hede's class is to work on a lesson plan to tackle the issue.
