Did you know we have an 18 hole disc golf course in Casper?

Before I get started, it's important to point out that if you're playing with a die hard, DO NOT call it it "Frisbee golf". Doing this will get you a lecture about how "disc golf" uses a disc, not a Frisbee. Whatever...they look exactly the same...

So, apparently, we've had this 18 hole course since 2007. It's funny how people new to the area find more to do than someone who has lived in town for 18 years. Now, for someone who has never played before, there are some nuances that take a while to get down, but over all, it's a fun/free way to kill a couple hours with friends and family. For a dude that gets paid in t-shirts and concert tickets, that's in my price range. And, it got me outdoors, walking around, and enjoying a beautiful Casper weekend. If you have a family that only spends time outside when they're going to and from a vehicle, have the kids put down he video games or lap top, and enjoy the great outdoors. We're Wyoming-ites. We're supposed to be rugged, not vampires.

You can find this particular course behind field 4 at the North Casper Softball fields. If you're not familiar with the area, it's on Beverly Street, just north of I-25

Random Observations From My Time Playing

(We didn't play by any rules other than count our total throws every hole...)

Casper Disc Golf Teeing Off

Some tee boxes were missing hole info. We decided that these were par 4's, since that's what it took us. Odds are, they were par 3's

The "course" is like a war zone. I dug it.

Be prepared to climb a couple hills. While they initially look daunting, they weren't that bad.

It took around 2:30 hours for six of us to play 18 holes. Fun way to start or finish a day.

Casper Disc Golf Course Cactus

DO NOT wear open toed shoes. There is cactus everywhere.

I peed somewhere along the 10th hole, so, you know, watch where you step.

Bring beer. As with everything else, beer makes it better.

Overall, I had a great time, and I decided I want to try to play every week. Hell, maybe even start a summer league. Nothing too competitive, just a way to get people to hang outside, all ages welcome. Would you join if we did? If so, leave a comment below. If enough people are down, we'll put it together...
