Casper Woman Pleads Guilty to Abusing Vulnerable Adult

A Natrona County prosecutor and a public defender reached a plea agreement that would mean no prison time for a Casper woman accused of abusing a vulnerable adult.

Assistant Natrona County District Attorney Michael Schaefer will not ask for prison time in the case of Jayme L. Bauer. Bauer pleaded guilty to abuse of a vulnerable adult in Natrona County District Court Tuesday for events that occurred in January.

Judge Catherine Wilking does not have to accept the agreement.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, police were called to a home in Casper on Jan. 23. When they arrived, the observed the victim lying on the ground.

A care provider gave officers several incident reports detailing events in which Bauer allegedly grabbed the victim by his hair in order to make him stand up straight.

"What made him a vulnerable adult," Wilking asked Bauer during Tuesday's hearing.

Bauer tearfully replied that the victim has multiple sclerosis.

"I was trying to get into the house," Bauer told the judge. "He got me frustrated and I lost control.

"I've been regretting it ever since."

In June, Bauer attempted to plead guilty to the charge but, when Wilking asked for Bauer's account of the incident, it didn't meet the criteria for abuse of a vulnerable adult.

Abuse of a vulnerable adult carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
