Very strong, possibly damaging winds are present across parts of northern and central Wyoming on Wednesday morning, including Casper and much of Natrona County.

A 76-mph gust was measured along Outer Drive on Casper's south side at 4:55 a.m., according to a high wind warning posted by the National Weather Service in Riverton.  That warning remains in effect until 12 p.m. Wednesday.

The Casper Airport measured a wind gust of 58 mph at 1:17 a.m.

More commonly, the NWS warns of 30- to 45-mph southwest winds with gusts around 60 mph. However, Casper's south side will see southwest wind around 50 mph with gusts to 75 mph.

Drivers of light, high-profile vehicles are advised to delay travel, the NWS says. As of 5 a.m., Wyoming 258 on the south side of Casper was closed to light, high-profile vehicles.

The wind will mostly impact transportation, but the NWS says power outages could occur, and a few trees could be toppled by the strong wind.

Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
