Casper PD: 2 Arrested for Meth; Infant in Protective Custody
Two Casper residents were arrested early Sunday morning after police officers searched their apartment and found drug paraphernalia including methamphetamine in the home where a six-month-old child was present.
Spirit L. Carlson, 20 was booked into jail on recommended charges of methamphetamine possession, marijuana possession and child endangerment with methamphetamine. Aiyana L. Cover, 20, was booked on a single methamphetamine possession charge.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, an officer went to an apartment in the 200 Block of E. J Street at roughly 1:45 a.m. Sunday to arrest Carlson on a warrant. A little over an hour later, the officer obtained and executed a search warrant for the apartment.
Inside, police found Cover and two men as well as a six-month-old child.
In the living room was a black safe, which was open, containing a methamphetamine pipe, a jeweler's bag with meth residue, two methamphetamine rocks weighing less than a gram, a jeweler's bag with a small amount of marijuana and a SPAM "stash can."
A diaper bag for the child was less than two feet from the safe.
A search of the bedroom allegedly turned up additional paraphernalia including baggies and another safe containing over five grams of meth, a syringe, a number of meth pipes and a broken scale.
The child was taken into protective custody and turned over to the Wyoming Department of Family Services. One of the two other men was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession because police say he was honest about what belonged to him, and the other man was allowed to leave.
Police say Carlson had previously been sentenced to probation for drug possession in Natrona County in 2017 and 2018. Cover had no prior drug convictions.
