A fatal crash north of Chugwater, Wyoming has resulted in the death of 25-year-old Casper resident Michael L. Cooper. The crash happened at 12:35 p.m. on Monday on Interstate 25 southbound about 11 miles north of Chugwater.
Cooper was driving a 1995 pickup truck southbound on I-25 in snow and ice covered road conditions. He lost control of the truck and began to spin off the highway to the west. The pickup slid into the ditch, tripped and rolled several times. Cooper was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the truck.
Cooper was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he died the next day on February 2nd.
Lack of seat belt use, traveling at a speed too fast for snow and ice and possible drug use are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash, that marked the seventh highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 11 fatalities in this same time period in 2015.
