Casper police arrested a man Tuesday after he allegedly stole towels from the Marriott and a tool case from the NowCap offices.

Colby Cole Thomas, 41, was booked on two counts of burglary.

Court documents say a police officer went to the Marriott at about 7 p.m. after an employee called 911 and said a man had tried to enter a guest room, but was scared off by the room's occupant

The employee said the man had a long goatee, sunken facial features and was wearing a black hoodie and jeans.

Police learned that the employee got onto the elevator with the suspect and noticed the man was carrying purple towels. The employee asked what the man was doing in the hotel, and the man reportedly said he was looking for a friend.

When the elevator stopped at the lobby, the man left the hotel and took off toward Denny's.

The hotel's manager told police that the hotel cleaning service used purple towels like the towels the man allegedly took.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the same officer went to the NowCap offices after an employee called 911 to say she saw a man -- whose description matched that of the man who had been at the Marriott -- inside the office.

The employee told the officer she had entered the building and went to her office, noticing that as usual, the door to the office across from hers was closed as usual.

When she was inside her office, the employee heard a noise from across the hallway and looked up to see that the door was open. A white man was standing in the doorway with a handful of miscellaneous items, according to the affidavit.

The man reportedly took off. The employee ran outside after him and saw he was running westbound.

Court documents say the man had entered the building and rummaged through offices and desks, as well as a closet containing tools.

Officers reportedly found several items strewn about in the area between NowCap and the Marriott. Those items included gloves, a purse, a purple towel, a Marriott card, a blue mesh bag, a pair of black gloves and a clipboard with housekeeping paperwork from the Marriott.

While collecting evidence, officers learned that a man matching the description of the suspect in both burglaries was seen running towards the Flying J.

Officers went to the Flying J and found the man, identified as Thomas, locked in the bathroom. His clothing matched the description given by employees at the Marriott and NowCap. Officers reportedly found a black case containing several tools in the bathroom with Thomas.

The tool bag was identified as the property of a NowCap employee. That employee said an empty water bottle was found on his desk, but it didn't belong to him. Police logged the bottle as evidence.

Thomas allegedly denied any knowledge of the burglaries. Court documents say employees at the Marriott and NowCap positively identified Thomas as the man they had seen.

Thomas was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. He was trespassed for life from NowCap and the Marriott.
