16-Year-Old Wyoming Driver Killed in Crash Near Pinedale
Authorities are investigating excessive speed, drug use and possible huffing in the wake of a crash which took the life of a 16-year-old near Pinedale on Thursday.
Jase Jacobson southbound on US 191 in a Ford pickup shortly before 9:45 p.m. Thursday, according to a crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Near mile marker 93, the Ford crossed the center line and the northbound lane, exiting the highway into a ditch.
As it left the roadway, the Ford spun counterclockwise about 95 degrees and hit a tree just outside the right-of-way.
The impact caused "extreme intrusion" onto the passenger door and passenger side of the pickup, according to the report.
Jacobson, who was not wearing his seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries.
The highway was dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash, according to the report. State troopers are investigating excessive speed, drug use and huffing as possible causes of the crash.
