The man driving a sport utility vehicle that crashed into Crest Hill Elementary School about 11 a.m. today was taken to the Wyoming Medical Center for treatment, a Casper police officer said.

Police are investigating whether the driver suffered a medical issue that may have caused him to lose control of the vehicle, Casper Police Department spokesman Justin Edberg said.

It is unknown whether the driver will be cited, Edberg said. "It all depends on the circumstances."

There were no children in the classroom where the vehicle struck the school, he said.

The school was not put on a lockdown.

The vehicle crashed into Crest Hill Elementary School, 4445 S. Poplar St., at 11 a.m.

The district reports all students are safe, and there are no student or staff injuries.

Additional counselors have been deployed to Crest Hill Elementary to assist.
