If you've ever been to a big rock/metal show you probably know that the best "seat" in the house is down on the floor. Right there in the middle of all the action. It's a integral part of the rock concert experience.

But you need to remind yourself that it's a shared experience. You are there with a very large group of others who are there to get their faces melted too.

So do us all a favor and make sure you read these DO's and DONT's. It will help ensure that we all have a good time.

DO's

  • If you see someone fall it is your DUTY to do everything you can to help get that person back up on their feet ASAP. They will thank you and the thirty other people you saved from a massive human pile up will thank you.
  • Stay hydrated, seriously, if you find yourself deep into the crowd and close to the barrier two things are going to happen. #1 you are going to get very hot, and sweat. #2 It's difficult and time consuming to get back out. So do your best to drink water, and try to drink lots of it.
  • Respect the security guards. As someone who's worked security at concerts before, and who has interacted with security on the other side; I can assure you that this is in YOUR best interests. These guys and gals are every day people just like you. Whether you want to believe it or not, they are there to make sure YOU have a good time.

DON'T's

  • Drink booze on the floor. I know some of you might disagree with me on this, but hear me out. I love booze, and booze at shows. But you paid damn good money for that booze, why risk getting it knocked out of your hand before you can enjoy it? Drink it during intermission, or up on the concourse. Then grab a water and head down to the floor!
  • Try to jump on stage! Oh how I can't stress this one enough. I can assure you of one thing. No matter how quickly or how long you are up on stage, it will end badly for you. And yes, it's going to hurt.
  • Don't take your shirt off. This is mostly for the guys (Duh!). Regardless of the time of the year, the floor of a rock show is going to get very hot and humid. People are constantly bumping into each and/or moshing. There is nothing worse than being involuntarily thrown into something that feels like a wet dolphin and smells like John Goodman's work out clothes.
