If you mess with the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ friends, don’t expect them to sit back and do nothing. The recent Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are urging fans to lend their support to Captain Paul Watson, head of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Watson was recently arrested by the German government for an incident that occurred seven years ago.

Making a call to action on their official website, the Chili Peppers gave their wholehearted support to the ‘Whale Wars’ star, who dedicates his life to see the safety of whales. The band also believes Watson was arrested due in part because the Costa Rican government wants to cover up a shady operation. The rock legends posted the following:

For 31 years Captain Paul Watson has been at the helm of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and a leader in the fight for a clean environment and marine conservation. The arrest of Captain Watson in Germany we believe is in part due to the fact that he uncovered an illegal shark finning operations in Costa Rica. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are longtime supporters of Sea Shepherd, Captain Watson and the wonderful work they do to save our ocean and protecting marine wildlife globally.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will also have a Sea Shepherd table at all of their North American tour stops. The band will headline the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 19, with tour dates running all the way through the end of November. See their full schedule here.
