Have you ever known, just known, that someone was lying straight to your face, but you couldn't prove it? Well now you can! Here are some techniques used by police officers, forensic psychologists, lawyers and more to tell if you're being lied to.

Body language-

Obviously, if someone is failing to maintain eye contact, there's a good chance that they are lying. Be careful though, as this one could be deceptive. There may just be someone over your shoulder that is better looking than you.

Physical expression will be held to a minimum. Liars try to remain incognito as much as possible. They don't want to take up space or draw attention to themselves. So if someone is lying to you, they will tend to be very stiff with very little movement.

Liars will tend to look down, because they feel guilty and do not want to face their accuser. They will also sometimes place objects in between themselves and their accuser, to maintain distance.

Reactions-

Liars automatically get defensive when being accused of lying. If someone is telling the truth, they will go on the offense. Example- A liar will go on the defensive when being accused and say something like, "Well you did this and this and this to me." A person who is telling the truth will go on the offensive and try to solve the problem, by saying something like, "Well what can I do to help alleviate your doubts? Let's fix this together." Granted, it probably won't be phrased as well as that; I'm just smarter than most people.

Liars will try to change the subject if they are being accused of something. "Did you bang my girlfriend?" "No, but did you catch the Lions game the other day?" This is a common trait of liars.

Liars also tend to use humor or sarcasm to cover up their stupid lying-ness. "Did you bang my girlfriend?" "Oh ya bro, I toooootally banged her. Riiiiight." Chances are, he probably did.

Finally, if someone is telling you a lie, they will talk much more than necessary, adding unneeded details to try to convince you. This is usually what gets most liars in trouble, because the more information you add, the easier it will be to get caught in lie because you forget some of the information you divulged.
