F.E. Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne is celebrating Fort D.A. Russell Days today through Sunday (July 21-23).
The annual celebration is held in conjunction with Cheyenne Frontier Days and commemorates the founding and history of the Air Force Base, and its predecessor, U.S. Army Fort D.A. Russell.
The original fort was founded the same year as the city of Cheyenne, 1867. D.A. Russell was a union army officer who died in the civil war. The three-day open house includes historical military presentations, demonstrations by security dogs, ICBM displays and much more.
