Steamboat Geyser Breaks Record for Most Eruptions in a Year
2018 is now officially a record year for Yellowstone National Park's Steamboat Geyser. It just erupted for the 30th time this year.
The eruption was officially confirmed by Geyser Times. If you look at their documented eruptions in 2018, you'll notice that Steamboat has been erupting just about every 7 or 8 days. In this case, the eruption today happened after 9 days of being dormant.
As you might expect, Steamboat's record eruption has gotten the attention of folks that keep a close eye on developments near the Yellowstone supervolcano.
There's a good chance that Steamboat won't stop at 30 eruptions. You can check the Geyser Times website to see if it has another eruption or two in it before 2018 is over.
