First responders were busy Wednesday morning in the wake of three crashes on the US 20/26 bypass near Salt Creek Highway.

Lt. Clint Haver of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says the number of people who were injured is still unclear, but the investigating trooper was at the hospital speaking with someone involved in the incident.

Haver says it started with a semi-truck which was westbound on the US 20/26 bypass. A fender fell off the commercial truck, and hit another vehicle headed eastbound, resulting in the first crash.

The second crash happened when a third vehicle saw the first crash and slowed down to avoid it, but was rear-ended by another vehicle.

That caused traffic to back up, and the third crash -- the most severe, reportedly involving four vehicles and a rollover -- took place behind the first two accidents.

The bypass was closed for about 80 minutes while first responders checked out the victims and cleared the scene.

Haver hopes to have more details later today, and we will update this story if we learn more.
