For the first time the Wyoming Cowboys have been named the Football Writers Association of American National Team of the Week Monday.

Wyoming toppled previous-undefeated Boise State at War Memorial Stadium last Saturday night, 30-28. It also marked the Cowboys first win over the Broncos in 11 meetings.

The Pokes are now 6-2 on the season and sit atop the Mountain Division of the Mountain West with a 4-0 record.

The honor was announced Monday during the show “Playbook,” hosted by Chris Carlin and Gino Toretta on SiriusXM’s “College Sports Nation.”

Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl said after the victory,

“If a win could help define a program, this one did. A lot of great plays and effort, and coming in we knew it was going to be down to a play here or there. It shows the resolve and belief with our coaches and players. A lot of hard work went into this win, and it’s victory number six.”

Bohl referring to the Cowboys getting bowl eligible this season in his third at the helm.

UW beat other National Team of the Week nominees in Clemson and Texas.

This is the first time since the inception of the award in 2002, the Cowboys have received the honor. Other National Teams of the Week have included Houston, Louisville, Navy and Alabama among others.
