The Wyoming Cowboys may be double-digit underdogs for the season opener at Iowa, but the 12.5 point spread is actually a sign of respect from the Vegas oddsmakers.

The Hawkeyes are really good, especially at home. Iowa finished last season 8-5, including a 6-3 mark in the Big Ten Conference with wins over #2 Michigan and #17 Nebraska. Their only home loss was a close game against #10 Wisconsin.

In week two last year, Wyoming was a 24 point underdog against Nebraska. The Cowboys kept it close before the Cornhuskers pulled away and covered the spread late in the game.

The Pokes will be facing an elite program and 70,000 hostile fans on September 2nd. But if Wyoming plays like they did for the first three quarters against Nebraska, the Cowboys will have a chance to cover the spread and, who knows, maybe even pull off the upset.

If they do, don't be surprised if Vegas makes Wyoming the favorites for their showdown with Oregon September 16th.
