When Does Daylight Savings Time Start in 2016
The days are getting noticeably longer and it feels like spring as warmer weather has arrived early! With the pending arrival of spring in 2 weeks, you might be wondering - When Does Daylight Savings Time begin?
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. beginning back in 2007. From there forward, Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. is defined as follows:
- begins at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday of March and
- ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of November
Daylight Savings Time for 2016 begins on Sunday, March 13th at 2 AM and will end on Sunday, November 6th at 2 AM.
There have been many health studies conducted surrounding Daylight Savings Time with regard to our health and well being and how the annual time change affects us.
The truth can be found somewhere inside the numbers, as a greater number of heart attacks will occur on the Sunday that time shifts forward and the corresponding Monday after. Some studies suggest the U.S. sees as much as a 10 percent increase in our risk of suffering a heart attack.
Scientists believe the increase in heart problems is due to sleep deprivation and stress caused by your body's internal clock being forced to skip an hour.
You can give your heart the best chance to survive this trauma by eating a good breakfast, exercising and enjoying the early morning sunshine.
In the fall, our bodies adjust to the end of Daylight Savings Time much better than the beginning because it’s always easier to absorb an hour more of sleep than deal with an hour less sleep.
Researchers recommend that we work to improve our sleep habits and get more, better rested sleep. Especially around the start of Daylight Savings Time, the time when our bodies are upended the most with the shock of shifting in our internal clocks and lives.
Just a quick reminder - Don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke alarms at the same time you change the time on the clocks around your house.
