A Wheatland man was thrown from his vehicle and killed early Saturday morning in a rollover crash on Highway 34 in Platte County.

John Teigen Finnerty, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Kyle McKay.

The crash occurred between 3 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. near milepost 38.

Finnerty was driving a 1998 Saturn. After navigating a right-hand curve in the highway, the Saturn exited the roadway to the left.

The Saturn then veered back onto the road before sliding and again exiting the road to the left. The vehicle rolled three times, ejecting Finnerty, before coming to an uncontrolled rest on all four wheels.

Driver fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

Finnerty is the 25th person to die on Wyoming highways in 2018. Thirty-three people had died by this point in 2017, compared with 14 deaths in 2016 and 37 by the same time in 2015.
