Warner Bros. Announces Special Releases for 2014 Record Store Day Black Friday
On Nov. 28, vinyl fanatics will celebrate Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. Instead of trampling fellow human beings to get that deal on a microwave, though, we’ll be heading to our favorite indie record store to get our hands on limited-edition releases. Whetting our appetites, Warner Bros. Records has just released details on what we can expect from their roster.
Check out the full list below:
Green Day, ‘Tune In Tokyo’ -- Pressed on transparent blue vinyl, limited to 5,000 copies. ‘Tune In Tokyo’ is a recording of a 2001 concert from Japan; this will be the first time it’s available to the world.
The Flaming Lips, ‘Imagene Peisi -- Atlas Eets Christmas’ -- Pressed on transparent red vinyl, limited to 5,000 copies. This was previously released as a limited CD run, but this will be the first time it is available far and wide and pressed on wax.
Mastodon, ‘The Motherload’ -- 12-inch picture disc, limited to 5,000 copies. ‘The Motherload’ is the latest single from Mastodon’s album, ‘Once More ‘Round the Sun,’ and the picture disc features the artwork of Skinner. The B-side is an exclusive instrumental of ‘Halloween.’
Jenny Lewis, ‘Pax-Am Sessions’ -- 7-inch single pressed on mint green vinyl, limited to 5,000 copies. ‘Just One of the Guys’ b/w ’You Can’t Outrun ‘Em’ are both unreleased alternate versions and produced by Ryan Adams and Mike Viola.
Conor Oberst, ‘Standing On the Outside Looking In’ b/w ‘Sugar Street’ -- 7-inch vinyl, limited to 3,000 copies. These songs have never been heard before, but were recorded during the ‘Upside Down Mountain’ sessions.
Echosmith, ‘Cool Kids’ -- 12-inch picture disc, limited to 3,000 copies. ‘Cool Kids’ hit No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and will be b/w a previously unreleased remix by RAC.
Also being released soon -- though not part of RSD Black Friday -- is ‘Alpha Mike Foxtrot: The Wilco Rarities Anthology.’ Wilco’s massive release is a four-LP set and will be limited to 7,500 copies. ‘Alpha Mike Foxtrot’ contains 47 rare tracks recorded in the studio, most of which have never been released on vinyl. Also included is a 46-page booklet filled with photos, liner nots and track-by-track notes by frontman Jeff Tweedy.
