Remember when MTV stood for Music Television? They actually showed videos all day. Of course, the negative side to this is they also ushered in an age of music where it mattered more about how you looked than how you sounded, but for the sake of this article, that’s a moot point.

Every Tuesday, I give you classic Metal video featuring bands you know, some you may have forgotten about, and others that just bring back good memories. Have a suggestion for a video you want to see or share? Lay it down in the comment section, and your video may be next week’s featured tune. And now, today’s video:

Mudvayne - Dig

"Dig" is the first and debut single from Mudvayne's 2000 album, L.D. 50. The song won the first ever MTV2 Award in 2001. A live version of the song taken from the Tattoo the Earth tour appears on the live album Tattoo the Earth: The First Crusade

A music video for the song was directed by Thomas Mignone. The video is distinguished in its atypical use of strikingly vibrant colors and stop-motion makeup effects. Additionally, the shutter was removed from the film camera during shooting, which created a vertical streaking in the film's negative during the video's darker scenes. Cinematographer Jon Tucker worked with Mignone to created the organic in-camera effects. Filming was completed in Los Angeles. The video was initially rejected by MTV for its depiction of human fetuses inhabiting the cellular structures as well as the usage of the atomic structure for dynamite in the opening scenes. Mignone re-created the opening scenes using alien infants and changed the atomic structure and the video was finally accepted by MTV for airing.
