Trent Reznor is working on some sort of partnership with Beats by Dre, the audio products and equipment brand produced by hip-hip icon Dr. Dre and and producer Jimmy Iovine under their Beats Electronic company. The Nine Inch Nails and How to Destroy Angels mastermind announced that he’s teamed up with Beats via a Facebook post that revealed very little about what they actually have in the works.

“I have indeed been involved with Dre, Jimmy Iovine, Luke Wood, and the rest of the team on a number of very interesting projects that will start to emerge next year,” Reznor wrote in the post. “I have been wanting to experiment and focus my energy and creativity in some different directions, and Beats has afforded me that very opportunity. As much as I’d like to tell you about the things we’ve dreamed up … I just can’t. I can tell you it’s probably not what you’re expecting!”

We don’t actually know what we are expecting, to be honest — a new line of How to Destroy Angels speakers for limousines? Some high-fidelity, Nails-branded headphones? — but whatever it brings, the partnership is unexpected, considering Iovine is the CEO of Reznor’s former label, Interscope Records. It was only a few years ago that Iovine commissioned several hip-hop remixes of a NIN song, only to see Reznor leave the label in a fuss and go off on Iovine. “You know what, Jimmy? F— you,” Reznor said. “Take that beat and shove it up Timbaland’s ass.”
