It’s been seven years between proper studio albums from the legendary Tom Waits. The singer-songwriter released the long-awaited follow up to 2004′s ‘Real Gone,’ ‘Bad As Me,’ last year. Take a look at Waits performing the ‘Bad As Me’ opener ‘Chicago’ on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’ below.

Waits released ‘Bad As Me’ last October but never made the late night rounds until now. The musician’s familiar raspy voice champions the Windy City to viewers despite its flaws. According to The Silver Tongue, Waits is backed by his son, Casey Waits, on drums, long time bassist Larry Taylor, guitarist David Hidalgo, keyboardist Augie Myers and guitarist Big Bill Morganfield.

Before Waits took the stage with his band, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer sat down with Letterman for an entertaining interview, which you can also see below. Apparently Waits is barred from eBay, and the last thing he bought from the auction site was Henry Ford’s last breath. It’s also amusing to see the musician/actor describe a rat trap from the 1800s.

Waits and his crew will make their next late night stop on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ tonight (July 10). One can wonder what magic the Roots could bring to a Waits song.
