These Words Were ‘Born’ the Same Year Wyoming Became A State
The Merriam Webster's website has added a cool new tool that allows anyone to see what words were added to the dictionary in any given year going all the way back to 'before 12th Century'. For the record, Merriam-Webster's dictionary was first published in 1828.
I love this 'Time Traveler' part of their website and thought it would be cool to see what words were 'Born' the same year that Wyoming became a state in 1889. What I found was more cool than I can list here. But these are just a few of the words that were added to the dictionary (Born) that year.
- Absentee Ballot
- Cerebral Palsy
- Club Sandwich
- Easy Street
- Half Nelson
- Hunger Strike
- Identification Card
- Kobe Beef
- Loose Cannon
Mind you that these are only a few of the words that stood out and there are dozens more that were added or 'born' that year. But it's kind of cool to know that some of the words we use everyday were all added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the same year Wyoming became a state in 1889.
To see the rest or to search any other year, check out the 'Time-Traveler' section of the Merriam Webster website.
