We may be one step closer to the coolest form of transportation this side of Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future Part II.'

Earlier this year, there was some hoopla about the possibility of a real-life hoverboard, but that turned out to be nothing but a hoax. However, it looks like the world may get a pretty cool consolation prize.

Remember when Marty McFly hopped on a pink Hoverboard to get away from a bunch of punks in 'Back to the Future 2'? Next to those coming-soon power shoelaces, that hoverboard is one of Doc Brown's most coveted inventions.

Twenty-three years ago, as ‘Back to the Future, Part II’ first hit theaters, kids everywhere got their first look at a toy from the future.  It was the Mattel Hoverboard, the skateboard without wheels that uses futuristic technology to float inches above the ground. Rumors swirled in the ’80s and ’90s that the Hoverboard was real (rumors fueled by director Robert Zemeckis) but, alas, much to the d
