Hockey is the sports equivalent of extreme metal. Much like the pit at any metal show, the hockey rink is home to copious amounts of blood, brutal fights, broken teeth, shattered bones and all that good stuff. Metal Blade Records obviously shares that sentiment, as the label is teaming up with minor league ice hockey team the Trenton Titans, who are now the official hockey team of metal.

Minor league hockey doesn't always pack in the fans, especially in the desert climate of Bakersfield, Calif., where the hometown Condors sometimes resort to odd promotions and in-game entertainment, like setting a giant crazed bird loose in the arena.

A minor league hockey team thought getting a few college students out on its ice for 'College Olympics' on Jan. 18 would make for memorable intermission entertainment. They were right…for all the wrong reasons.
