Gunshots Fired in Downtown Austin During SXSW
Police in Austin, Texas have made an arrest after gunshots were fired into the air in the middle of the South By Southwest Festival early Sunday morning (March 20). No injuries were reported.
According to USA Today, "several pops" around 1:30AM sent people running and screaming. Police said they recovered a gun and took one person into custody at the Old School Bar & Grill venue near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Trinity Street. Local act Hour Band were performing at the time.
Police did not give more details about the suspect and charges.
The incident stirs memories of the tragedy during the festival in 2014 when a drunk driver plowed a stolen car into a crowd on Red River Street, killing four. Earlier this year, a jury found Rashad Owens, 23, guilty of capital murder and sentenced him to life in prison.
