UPDATE (11:23 a.m.)

District spokeswoman Tanya Southerland says police responding to Casper Classical Academy found nothing to substantiate the report of a potential safety concern at the school.

The lockout at the school has been lifted, as have the lockouts at Natrona County High School, Dean Morgan Junior High School and Park Elementary.

Dean Morgan Junior High and Park Elementary were put into lockout protocol as a precaution following a report of a suspicious person possibly armed with a weapon at Natrona County High School.

Southerland told news reporters that what began as a "heightened lockout" at NCHS evolved into a "secure in place" scenario with students and staff sheltering inside classrooms while armed law enforcement officers cleared the school building.

No suspicious person was located at NCHS. Casper Police Department spokeswoman Rebekah Ladd said the report remains under investigation.

UPDATE (10:43 a.m.)

A second threat has been reported via Safe2Tell regarding a potential safety concern at Casper Classical Academy, according to police spokeswoman Rebekah Ladd, and the school went into lockout protocol.

Ladd could not immediately say whether officers would clear the school using the same armed approach which was implemented at Natrona County High School.

There is no evidence that the incidents at the two schools are related, officials said.

District spokeswoman Tanya Southerland reports Natrona County High School has been cleared. No suspicious person has been located in connection with the 'suspicious person' report which prompted the lockout this morning.

Students and staff were seen exiting Natrona County High School at 10:45 a.m.

Ladd said the 'suspicious person' report at NCHS remains under investigation. The details of that report, such as what made the person seem suspicious, have not been released.

UPDATE (10:33 a.m.)

The lockout has been lifted at Dean Morgan Junior High School and Park Elementary School. However, the lockout protocol is still in place at NCHS.

Armed law enforcement officers were still clearing the building a few moments ago.

UPDATE (9:57 a.m.)

The law enforcement presence at Natrona County High School is a joint response by the Casper Police Department and Natrona County Sheriff's Office, according to CPD spokeswoman Rebekah Ladd.

Ladd declined to detail the nature of the 'suspicious person' report. However, she said she would be able to provide additional information about the report itself once the situation is more stable.

UPDATE (9:47 a.m.)

A district spokeswoman says law enforcement officers are sweeping the building at Natrona County High School to ensure no suspicious person is present.

Tanya Southerland called the protocol implemented at NCHS a "heightened lockout," with students and staff "securing in place" inside classrooms.

The lockouts at Dean Morgan Junior High and Park Elementary are still precautionary. Law enforcement is not clearing those buildings at this time, Southerland explained.

Original Story:

Three Casper schools were sent into a precautionary lockout Friday morning following a report of a suspicious person.

The lockout is in effect for Natrona County High School, Dean Morgan Junior High School and Park Elementary Schook, Natrona County School District spokeswoman Tanya Southerland told K2 Radio News in a text message.

Students and staff are safe, she added.

Southerland says a suspicious person was reported near Natrona County High School, prompting the lockout. The other schools were put on lockout as well out of an abundance of caution.

Law enforcement officers arrived at Natrona County High School, Southerland said, but she did not know whether they had contacted the reported suspicious person.

A lockout means the schools' perimeters have been secured, with no one allowed to enter or exit the buildings. It is a less severe measure than a lockdown.

This developing story will be updated.
