Story Behind Black Key’s Lonely Boy (First Listen) Music Video [VIDEO]

I've seen it many times, and you probably have too.

The video that features Black Key's single "Lonely Boy". It turns out that really is the OFFICIAL music video for the single! Of course you would never guess that at first glance. It looks more like the millions of other viral videos that get uploaded to Youtube.com on a minute by minute basis.

But as it turns out, the band decided to scrap the video that was originally shot and went with the footage they shot of Actor / Part Time Security guard Derrick T. Tuggle dancing to their song.

"There was supposed to be [a proper video for the song], but there is not. We shot a whole video here in Los Angeles about two months ago, but we didn't like it, so we scrapped the whole thing," drummer Patrick Carney explained, "Except for the footage of Derrick Tuggle dancing, which was a complete accident. ... He had an hour to listen to the song, and he memorized all the lyrics and he came up with the dance, and he basically did that on his own. And if we didn't have that footage, we would not have a video for the song."

I bet the execs at the label are kicking themselves for spending all that money to put a "professional" video together. This is a great example of how viral video can work.
