Soundgarden Preview ‘By Crooked Steps,’ Discuss Writing the New Song

Soundgarden fans hoping to hear music from the band’s forthcoming comeback album, ‘King Animal,’ haven’t had much to go on outside of first single, ‘Been Away Too Long’, and the few snippets of other songs that have surfaced so far. But now another clip is out there, this one two minutes long and featuring both a sampling of ‘By Crooked Steps’ and interview footage of the band discussing the previously unheard tune.

“We dove right in; we had various arrangements of that song,” drummer Matt Cameron says of writing the tune. “Just the overall song is [a] pretty classic Soundgarden kind of vibe.”

Adds singer Chris Cornell: “To me, it was kind of almost taking all of the strange time-signature stuff that Soundgarden have been known for and kind of taking it to another level.” ‘King Animal,’ meanwhile, drops Nov. 13.
