Slash Says If Axl Calls, He’ll Answer

(hennemusic) Slash loves his rock n' roll life, making music, recording and touring the world as a guitar player, with the added responsibility, these days, also as a band leader.

He still seems to have a glint in his eye about the early days, when Guns N’ Roses were starting out and trying to make a name for themselves.

In a new interview with the Daily News, Slash reminisced about GNR’s rise to the top.

"When Guns N' Roses got really big, we went from supporting Aerosmith to headlining stadiums on our own, so once it happened, it happened really fast," Slash said. "But looking back, the struggle up was the best time. There's just that hunger, and I enjoyed that. That sweaty, real intimate feel when just a select group of people love your band, and you're building and touring. That's rock and roll. I mean, when you get to the big-time, that's great, but the scrappy climb to get to the top, that's the part I still appreciate. We had such a good time, even if we didn't know it at the time."

Slash has been asked a million times about his thoughts of a Guns N' Roses reunion with all the original members — he and Axl Rose have not been on good terms for many years — but when a reporter put it to him in a different way, Slash was taken by surprise: What if Axl called your cell tomorrow morning and apologized for everything and promised to do whatever it takes to make a reunion work?

"All things considered, that would be a call I would be surprised to get," Slash said. "If that really happened, I would have to clean out my junk drawer, too, but I don't see it happening. But if it did happen, I would do whatever it takes to at least have a conversation about it."

Hmm.

Note that the question was based on Axl apologizing, so it's probably best that no one hold their breath for too long waiting on that to happen.

However, just last week, Slash was asked about GNR’s eligibility for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame next year - 25 years after the release of “Appetite For Destruction.”

"I didn't realize it was so soon," Slash told Spinner. "First, we have to actually get inducted. I know we'll be eligible, but with the way that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is sort of hit or miss with rock bands, there is a possibility that we won't get nominated next year."

And if they do? "We'll cross that bridge when we get there," he says.
