Singing Christmas Carols Is Still Against The Law In Cheyenne
In 1897, The City of Cheyenne passed an ordinance prohibiting public performances without a permit. 120 years later, singing Christmas carols could subject you to a $750 fine or six months in jail.
Municipal Code § 5.36.030 was intended to regulate entertainment at local circuses, carnivals and parades. Although it's been revised to allow street musicians to perform downtown, it's still technically illegal to sing on public property.
As far as we know, the ordinance has never been enforced against Christmas carolers. If someone were to be ticketed for unlawful singing in Cheyenne, the ordinance would likely be declared unconstitutional in court.
