As if the holidays weren't already hard enough for postal workers, a mailman was attacked yesterday in Cheyenne. Police are still searching for two assailants, who stole several packages.

Which begs an interesting question. Should mail carriers be allowed to carry concealed weapons?

Federal law prohibits the possession on firearms at government facilities, including post offices. Although they can't carry guns, postal workers will soon be equipped with GPS-enabled mobile devices that will feature "panic buttons".

While thieves pose a threat to mail carriers, especially during the holidays, dogs are their biggest enemies. Last year, nearly 7,000 postal workers were attacked by animals.
