Welcome to the final piece of our exclusive video interview with Rob Zombie. In this clip, Zombie speaks about how he comes up with his lyrics, the influence of Americana on his music and his frustration with film censorship.

Rob Zombie’s lyrics often revolve around monstrous creatures from classic film and folklore. We wanted to know his lyrical process, so Zombie gave us a look into his brain when it comes to monsters. We also spoke to Zombie about Americana, which some fans seem to overlook as a recurring topic in Rob’s lyrics.

“I feel like I was such the classic ‘70s Americana kid, the way I grew up,” Zombie says. “Totally that kid who was raised by television and you wish your parents were Farrah Fawcett and Evel Knievel. It’s not just horror movies, it’s everything. TV and movies… the ‘70s was a really bizarre time.”

Zombie also speaks about fighting to get his newest horror film, 31, an R rating for theaters and actually revealed The Devil’s Rejects was his most difficult to secure an R rating for. “You’re editing content for adults. One adult is telling another adult, ‘I think that’s a little too much for you. We’re gonna have to tone it down.’ It’s always ruining the movie at the same time. Horror movies get it the worst, usually, or action movies or any kind of violent movie. Nobody goes, ‘Your comedy is too funny, we’d better cut it down. People might laugh too hard.’”
