An NHL legend and former Colorado Avalanche defenseman will headline the Casper Amateur Hockey Club's annual fundraising dinner next month.

“This year, we have Stanley Cup champion Ray Bourque – he is a hockey hall of famer, he played hockey for the Boston Bruins, and, more recently, for the Avalanche,” Casper Amateur Hockey Club vice president Angie Donelan said.

Bourque played for Colorado from 1999 to 2001. He won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001.

Before playing for the Avalanche, Bourque played for over 20 seasons with the Boston Bruins. Bourque also participated in the NHL All-Star Game 19 times.

Donelan says the dinner sold out last year and generally serves as the organization's biggest fundraiser.

“We’re just trying to make it a great event for our kids (and) help keep hockey at an affordable price, because it is not a school-funded activity,” Donelan said. “The parents and volunteers basically run the organization.”

The Stanley Cup headlined the event last year.

The event is scheduled for April 5 at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel. Donelan says ticket information can be obtained by calling (307) 258-6411. Tickets are $35.
