Radio-Thon May 20th Works To Help Casper’s Hungry Kids
Wyoming Food for Thought Project in partnership with Townsquare Media presents the Power of One Radio-Thon, a day-long effort to engage and empower individuals, organizations, and businesses in our community to be a part of the Local solution to hunger.
On Friday, May 20th, Townsquare Media radio stations including K2 Radio, KISS-FM, Rock 96.7, My Country 955, The River 1079 and AM 1400 ESPN will be inviting you to join the local solution to hunger by calling in to donate, registering online to give monthly, or dropping off donations of food or funds to the locally owned Subways located at west side Walmart, CY Subway, north Center Street, and the east side on Newport, by Kohl's.
Wyoming Food for Thought Project is Natrona County's Local solution to hunger. Working on a grassroots level, they provide food to over 670 children in Natrona County filling weekend food bags and filling holes in the local hunger safety net.
Jamie Purcell, co-founder and director of Food for Thought says, "Because our program is completely confidential, its sometimes difficult to understand the impact one meal can have on a child's life," Purcell also added that she had heard back from advocates at local schools and one advocate shared the following:
"I have a student in my class who always wanted to be able to have a friend spend the night for his birthday but was never able to because he knew that he "wouldn't have enough food at home to feed his friend too". I will never forget when he told me(with such excitement) that because of the Food for Thought bag he received, he was able to have his best friend over for a birthday sleepover and they ate macaroni and cheese together. He was so thrilled to be able to host a peer. It made my heart sing!"
