Firefighters have more than doubled their containment of a wildfire near Pathfinder Reservoir since Thursday.

The Pedro Mountain Fire continued to grow and was mapped at 12,427 acres in size as of Friday morning. Containment increased to 23%, with 358 people assigned to fight the flames.

The plan Friday called for firefighters to continue protecting threatened buildings, putting most of their resources into working on the south and southeast portion of the fire area, where most activity was noted Thursday.

Evacuations are still in effect in place for Pedro Mountain Estates, Pedro Mountain Ranch Road and Cardwell Ranch.

Natrona County Road 407/Carbon County 291, also known as Kortes Road, is closed from the intersection of Natrona County 408 south to Leo/Sage Creek until further notice. All roads west of that location are closed to Pathfinder Reservoir.

Kortes Road is also closed three miles south of Alcova at the junction of Natrona County 408. The closure extends south to Leo/Sage Creek and includes all roads west to Pathfinder. Access into Fremont County via County Road 408 is still allowed.

For travelers northbound on Carbon County 291, Miracle Mile is still accessible from the south.

Some 12 aircraft were available to assist firefighters Friday. The lightning-caused fire started Saturday and is burning in sage, grass, juniper and pine stands.
