This isn’t the first time we’re writing about 8-year-old drummer Avery Molek. We’ve shared two covers from the then 6-year-old -- one was his take on Guns N’ Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" and another was a video of him playing Metallica’s “Master of Puppets. This time around the little guy is performing Dream Theater’s “The Dance of Eternity” (see above) and “Panic Attack” (watch below). These two covers have even caught the attention of former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy.

A mere two hours after Molek posted his cover of “The Dance of Eternity” on YouTube, Portnoy had it posted on his Facebook page with the caption (note the all caps and three exclamation points), “ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!! MIND BLOWN…..”

In the comment section of his post, one of his Facebook fans asked Portnoy if he could play like that when he was eight, to which the drummer replied “OF COURSE NOT!” We have no doubt the 8-year-old feels the same admiration for Portnoy, as he's wearing a shirt with the drummer's face on it during the performance and wrote on YouTube that "Mike's drumming is freaking crazy" on this song.

When it came to the boy-wonder drummer’s cover of “Panic Attack,” Portnoy was just as effusive. He wrote on Twitter, “What???????? Are you kidding me?? Love YOUR playing Avery! The bar has been risen again…incredible!” Head here to check out Molek's YouTube channel. As for Portnoy, he's drumming in the Winery Dogs and the group are currently working on their second studio disc. They also have some tour dates lined up for the fall.
