Jackson Passes Non-Discrimination Resolution

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Jackson officials have approved a resolution protecting against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, but it is far less forceful than a measure considered in the past.

Town attorney Audrey Cohen-Davis says the resolution shows the council's support, but lacks legal teeth. It was approved unanimously earlier this week.

Town officials originally considered a law that would have created a process for prosecuting discrimination against the LGBT community, but Cohen-Davis says it's not clear whether that would have held up in court, since Wyoming doesn't have similar laws on the state level.

A similar law was approved in Laramie last spring. Officials there say there haven't been any issues, but it hasn't been tested yet.
