Cheyenne Man Gets 8-10 Years for Child Sex Abuse, Exploitation
A 60-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to eight to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing and exploiting a minor, the Cheyenne Police Department announced Monday.
Case Background
According to a department Facebook post, police began investigating James Emerson in November 2024 after a school resource officer was informed that a minor had been sexually abused.

"Working with detectives, investigators were able to determine that Emerson had abused and exploited a minor multiple times during 2024," the post reads.
Emerson was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on Nov. 6, 2024.
He was subsequently found guilty of sexual exploitation of a child and fourth-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and was sentenced on Dec. 29, 2025, in Laramie County District Court.
Police say the eight-to-10-year sentence will be served consecutively to a 15-to-25-year parole revocation.
"Emerson was previously incarcerated in Natrona County in 2014 for aggravated assault and battery with bodily injury," the post reads.
