Cheyenne Police say a false alarm prompted a lockdown at Cheyenne East High School on Friday morning, August 29.

Statement From Police Spokesman On Lockdown

Police spokesman Lt. Dan Long gave Townsquare Media the following statement:

''We responded to East High School for an emergency lockdown alarm.  Officers quickly arrived and began to clear the school.  Shortly after officers arrived, it was found to be a false alarm that came through the school’s Raptor system.  Officers then cleared the scene.''

"Police earlier posted this statement on the Cheyenne Police Department Facebook pageThe Cheyenne Police Department responded to East high School for emergency lockdown alarm . Out of an abundance of caution there is a lockdown of the high school and a significant police response. Most recent updates appear that the alarm was activated by mistake. Officers are ensuring safety within the school. The school will resume to normal operations as soon as it is clear."

The school was able to resume normal operations by noon on Friday.
